Why Embracing AI in Art is the Future (and Why You Shouldn’t Be Afraid)
As an artist, designer, and creative professional, I’ve spent my entire life drawn to art in all its forms. From sketching and writing poetry as a child to building a career in design and marketing, I’ve always found ways to express myself. However, when I discovered generative art—particularly AI tools like Midjourney—I felt a spark that reignited my creativity in a way I hadn’t experienced before. For me, embracing AI in art isn’t something to be feared; it’s an incredible tool that enhances creativity, not a threat to it.
Embracing the Evolution of Technology
Technology has always been an integral part of my life. Out of high school, I wanted to pursue a career in IT, but life’s circumstances led me toward design and marketing. Over the past 20 years, I’ve worked with digital tools like Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop, mastering their use for corporate work. Yet, when AI art tools like Midjourney entered the scene, I was immediately drawn to them. They merge everything I love—art, communication through words, and technology.
There’s a misconception that AI will replace human creativity, but that couldn’t be further from the truth. Embracing AI in art is much like adopting Photoshop when it first emerged; it’s a tool that still requires a human touch. You need imagination, vision, and creativity to guide it. AI doesn’t eliminate creativity—it amplifies it. For me, using AI in my personal artwork has brought my soul into the process in a way I never thought possible.
My Creative Process: A Blend of Old and New
My workflow is a fusion of traditional digital art and AI. Midjourney allows me to explore ideas that once only existed in my mind and bring them to life. I integrate my own original work into the generative process, and everything I create now is a blend of everything that came before it. It’s like watching my creative history unfold in real time, piece by piece.
This technology has revolutionized my process. It hasn’t just enriched it—it has completely upended it and sparked a rebirth. Never before have I been able to pour so much of my soul into something and share it outwardly. And this is just the beginning of embracing AI in art as part of my journey.
A Message to Skeptics: AI Is Not the Enemy
To the artists who fear that AI will take over the art world, I say: Embracing AI in art is not the enemy. Change is always scary, but technological advancements are inevitable. Instead of resisting them, we should learn how to use them to our advantage, to create more meaningful, impactful work.
Think about it this way: when Adobe Photoshop first launched, it didn’t destroy the art world. It made it possible for artists to explore new mediums and expand their creative horizons. The same is true for AI tools. They are not a replacement for creativity but an extension of it.
A Personal Call to Action
AI has fundamentally transformed my creative process, and I see myself as a champion for this technology. I returned to social media in 2022, specifically Instagram, to be a positive voice for AI in the creative community. I felt a calling to show others how this technology lit a fire in my imagination and how it could do the same for them.
